The Regional Museum was founded in 1957 with the participation of Konstanty Laskowski, Alfred Wacławski and Stanisław Gabryel. The museum is located in the oldest tenement house in the town, dating from about 1780, which was owned by a tiler called Mikołaj Grabiec. The museum collects exhibits documenting the history of Gorlice, including old documents with seals, town plans and guild statutes from the 15th to the 17th century. Among the memorabilia of Ignacy Łukasiewicz - the precursor of the oil industry, the following are worth mentioning: a pharmacist's alembic (a device for distilling crude oil) and a prototype of the first oil lamp in the world. An attraction of the World War I exhibition is a model of the Battle of Gorlice, which took place on 2 May 1915, and a salon of wax figures of the most important figures of this operation. The ethnographic part of the museum shows the cultural diversity of the Podgórze Gorlickie which includes Polish and Lemko traditions.
